First of all, I really like the cover art for this one - love a good two-tone, love waxy textures. My gateway song for this album was actually Policy of Truth, which I'd been listening to a few weeks earlier. This was my first proper experience "peshing it", though.

I must admit, this is not going to be a very good review. I don't have the attention span for darkwave, and a good chunk of this album was so smooth and slippery that it just slid right out of my ear after I was done. I especially feel this way about the last four or so songs, which were really delightful and then quickly boring to my techno-addled brain. I'm also really nervous right now for no reason.

Of course I think Personal Jesus is the best track. It came on while I was cleaning a toilet, which was just so fantastic. Communication.. conveyance.. I like how there isn't much of an explicitly sinister or uncomfortable feeling to these tracks when they comprise, obvs, a narrative (*take all of my imprecise wording with a grain of salt) of manipulation. I have more to say on this subject but I think that I should save it for an album that I'm more familiar with so it's not just vague nonsense. (When will the Fist City review happen...)

Holy shit, this was ranked #2 of all 1990 albums on Rateyourmusic?? I suppose I don't blame them. It was beat out by Heaven or Las Vegas, which I haven't heard.

P.S. I'm writing this instead of studying at the last minute for an exam, which is really cool behavior that you ought to emulate whenever possible! ALSO, if you have a PROBLEM with any "factual errors", or whatever, my email address is in About. Take it up with me there.
